Supply Chain Visibility Report

86% of Supply Chain Decision-Makers Rank Visibility Among Their Highest Priorities

Based on research from Gartner, McKinsey, Maersk, Sphera, and other industry sources, Vserve Solution’s Supply Chain Visibility Gap Report 2026 examines why visibility remains difficult to achieve despite ongoing investments in digital transformation.

Supply chain visibility has become one of the defining capabilities of modern enterprise operations. As organizations manage increasingly complex supplier networks, evolving customer expectations, and ongoing market disruptions, the ability to access timely, connected, and reliable operational information has become essential for making faster, more informed decisions.

Yet, despite years of investment in digital transformation, many organizations continue to struggle with fragmented data, disconnected processes, and limited transparency across their supply chains.

To better understand the current state of enterprise supply chains, we analyzed research from leading industry organizations and compiled the findings in The Supply Chain Visibility Gap Report 2026. Several themes emerged consistently across the research, revealing where organizations continue to face operational challenges and the priorities shaping the next phase of supply chain transformation.

Findings That Stood Out

Four findings emerged consistently across the research, illustrating the current state of supply chain visibility and the operational challenges organizations continue to face.

40%

of surveyed organizations lacked comprehensive visibility into their
Tier-1 suppliers.

70%

of organizations reported inaccurate or unreliable supplier data
beyond Tier-1

42%

of organizations reported challenges synchronizing and coordinating end-to-end supply chain operations.

2 weeks

The average time organizations take to plan and execute a response following a supply chain disruption.

40% of Organizations Lack Comprehensive Tier-1 Supplier Visibility – McKinsey

Many organizations still lack complete visibility into their direct supplier networks. Without a clear understanding of Tier-1 supplier activities, they have a limited ability to identify risks early and respond proactively to disruptions.

70% Report Inaccurate or Unreliable Supplier Data Beyond
Tier-1 – Sphera

Visibility challenges become even greater deeper within the supply chain. The research shows that inconsistent and unreliable supplier data across Tier-2 and lower-tier suppliers continues to hinder end-to-end transparency.

42% Struggle to Coordinate End-to-End Supply Chain
Operations – MHI

Many organizations continue to face challenges synchronizing procurement, inventory, logistics, and operational workflows. When critical information remains siloed across systems and teams, decision-making slows and operational agility suffers.

Organizations Take an Average of Two Weeks to
Respond – McKinsey

Even when disruptions are identified, responding quickly remains a challenge. On average, enterprises require two weeks to plan and execute a response following a disruption. Delays of this magnitude reinforce the need for greater visibility and connected operational data.

Taken together, these findings suggest that the challenge facing modern supply chains is no longer a lack of information. Enterprises generate more operational data than ever before, yet many continue to struggle to transform that data into timely, actionable insights.

The AI Reality: Investment Must Be Matched by Data Quality

The research identifies a striking disconnect between technology investment and data readiness.

Enterprise investment in AI-powered supply chain management software is projected to grow from less than $2 billion in 2025 to $53 billion by 2030 (Gartner). At the same time, 33% of supply chain leaders cite a lack of trust in data (Capgemini) as one of the biggest barriers to adopting analytics and AI.

It shows that while enterprises continue to increase AI investments, many have yet to establish the reliable operational data foundation required to realize their full value.

For AI to improve visibility, it must be powered by accurate, consistent, and well-governed data. Without that foundation, AI risks reinforcing existing blind spots rather than eliminating them.

Visibility is no longer a reporting objective. It’s a strategic capability. Organizations that can transform fragmented operational data into meaningful insights are better equipped to improve resilience, agility, and decision-making.

Three Priorities for Supply Chain Leaders

The research suggests that leading organizations are focusing on three strategic priorities to strengthen supply chain visibility and improve operational resilience.

1. Build a Connected Data Foundation

Visibility begins with reliable data. Integrating supplier, procurement, inventory, logistics, and operational information into a connected data foundation helps eliminate silos, improve consistency, and provide teams with a single source of truth for decision-making.

2. Prioritize Data Governance

As AI and advanced analytics become more deeply embedded in supply chain operations, data governance becomes important. Standardizing supplier information, improving data quality, and establishing clear governance practices help ensure that operational insights are accurate, reliable, and actionable.

3. Treat Visibility as an Ongoing Capability

Leading organizations recognize that visibility is not a one-time project. It requires continuous investment in people, processes, data, and cross-functional collaboration to adapt to changing supplier networks, customer expectations, and operational risks.
